STRATEGIC PLAN OVERVIEW (2009-2012)

Mission Statement

To achieve excellence in education within a caring family atmosphere under the influence of the standards and practices of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand and Polynesia.

Our Vision

Our vision is for a school where the learning capacity and aspirations of our students are expanded in a nurturing environment, preparing them to lead meaningful, balanced lives in a changing world.

In achieving this vision, the WDSG community will promote its CENTRAL values of Courage, Empathy, iNtegrity, Tolerance, Respect, fAith and Loyalty.

Our Goals

1. Learning

Provide learner-centred programmes that address the needs and aspirations of all students and expand the learning capacity of individuals.

2. Facilitating

Attract, develop and retain inspiring teachers who are mentors and facilitate powerful student learning and living.

3. Contributing

Foster the personal, physical, cultural, spiritual and social development of each individual.

4. Connecting

Engage meaningfully with the wider school community and other local, national and global communities.

5. Adapting

Explore, evaluate and embrace new and existing technologies which allow students and teachers to utilize knowledge, and promote effective learning.

6. Resourcing

Effectively develop, maintain and efficiently utilize human, physical and financial resources to support the school’s strategic goals, ensuring long term sustainability and development.

7. Nurturing

Provide a safe, caring and supportive Anglican environment where all members of the community are valued and respected and shaped by the values of the Christian faith.

GOALS

1. LEARNING - Provide learner-centred programmes that address the needs and aspirations of all students and expand the learning capacity of individuals.

Objectives:

· Implement the new curriculum

· Embed key competencies into learning outcomes across all the learning areas

· Develop appropriate pathways for all students

· Establish cross-curricular links

· Provide real-life contexts for learning

· Identify different learning needs of individuals and groups, and design programmes that address them

· Provide more opportunities for girls to take responsibility for their own learning

· Teach students to understand how they learn and to know themselves as learners

· Use achievement data to track progress and inform planning

· Foster home/school learning partnerships

2. FACILITATING - Attract, develop and retain inspiring teachers who are mentors and facilitate powerful student learning and living.

Objectives:

· Provide professional development to achieve the school’s vision for learning

· Build on the school culture of professional sharing and reflective practice (subject specific and school-wide)

· Develop internal leadership capacity and engage in deliberate succession planning

· Encourage and support staff involvement in co-curricular activities in order to foster relationships beyond the classroom and extend opportunities for mentoring

· Encourage and support teachers to model lifelong learning

3. CONTRIBUTING - Foster the personal, physical, cultural, spiritual and social development of each individual.

Objectives:

· Promote development of the Arts

· Identify and nurture talent

· Mentor and support elite athletes and artists/performers

Objectives continued:

· Consolidate the sustainability of the sports and arts infrastructure

· Develop programmes for students in sports leadership and training of officials

· Review and enhance leadership training and personal development opportunities for all students

· Engage more students in altruistic service opportunities

· Utilise and celebrate a more diverse range of student talents, strengths and achievement

4. CONNECTING - Engage meaningfully with the wider school community and other local, national and global communities.

Objectives:

· Develop systems that enable effective reciprocal communication with the school community

· Foster closer liaison with all associated groups in the school community to promote a common vision and purpose

· Value input and feedback from the school community

· Rationalise service to our community

· Develop international and cultural connections, promoting tolerance and understanding to encourage global citizenship

· Foster mutually beneficial relationships with local businesses, community and educational groups

· Organise professional events that reflect the ethos of the school

5. ADAPTING - Explore, evaluate and embrace new and existing technologies which allow students and teachers to utilize knowledge, and promote effective learning.

Objectives:

· Develop vision for the role of IT in teaching and learning

· Develop economical solutions to the school’s growing IT needs

· Establish pathways to achieve the desired IT services and outcomes

· Provide technology and staffing to give students and staff the appropriate access and expertise

· Explore the potential of new technologies to provide effective learning opportunities

· Develop use of Dionet as an educational tool

· Provide subject specific training to assist teachers to incorporate IT most effectively into their teaching programmes

GOALS

6. RESOURCING - Effectively develop, maintain and efficiently utilize human, physical and financial resources to support the school’s strategic goals, ensuring long term sustainability and development.

Objectives:

Physical Resources:

· Establish clear policies and procedures related to campus development

· Update and prioritise campus development plan

· Manage building projects effectively and prudently

· Enhance presentation of the school site in order to maximise its unique advantages

· Promote environmental sustainability

Human Resources:

· Evaluate administrative systems and eliminate unnecessary practices

· Provide an efficient and effective infrastructure to ensure maximum support for teaching and learning programmes

· Review Human Resources systems, procedures and documentation

Financial Resources:

· Enhance existing income streams and develop alternative income streams to maximize use of the school’s assets

· Undertake long term financial forecasting and planning

7. NURTURING - Provide a safe, caring and supportive Anglican environment where all members of the community are valued and respected and shaped by the values of the Christian faith.

Objectives:

· Ensure the school’s culture and behaviour management procedures are consistent with the principles of Restorative Practice

· Encourage girls to like and value themselves

· Track and monitor electronic record keeping systems for pastoral care

· Establish Pastoral Care Centre to centralize and enhance pastoral services

· Encourage healthy eating and a more physically active lifestyle

· Develop strategies to raise wellbeing, ambition and achievement of Maori and Pasifika students

· Facilitate closer integration of day and boarding school

· Incorporate spiritual values into classroom content and practice

· Encourage healthy relationships and mutual respect

· Ensure Maori/Pasifika cultures are reflected in the daily life of the school
