INTERNATIONAL DEPARTMENT

We take up to 30 International fee-paying students each year from lots of countries around the world. This year we took 22 lovely international girls who are from China, Japan, Korea and Thailand. Over the years we have had students from Alaska, Brazil and Germany. The international students either live with their families, in the Boarding House or are home-stayed. They all take regular school subjects which are supplemented with ESOL lessons and subject support.

The International Centre is housed in the Homestead in the school grounds. This is where the Dean of International Students, Marion Slaney, has her office and where international students have their ESOL lessons with her or the assistant ESOL teacher and home-stay coodinator, Lyn Ewen.

Each year the international students and students from other countries, but who are now permanent residents of NZ, hold an international week to show the school something of their culture. Not only presentations are given during that week, but also, yummy food from each country is introduced.

Our International students are an interesting bunch of young women who have been brave enough to leave their home countries to study here and who give our school a very interesting and exciting dimension.
